Stop Two

By the time we stopped for the night we were in a different prefecture, where the sakura were just beginning to fall but there were still patches of snow on the ground.

We also found koi nobori hanging by a quaint little ski lodge and across a big river with misty snow capped mountains in the background.

So where were we?

  1. Hmmm. If you travelled on the Chuo Expressway via Yamanashi, you're probably in Nagano. If you were on the Kan-Etsu ... nah, but then you wouldn't have gone via Yamanashi.

    Nagano. Maybe Gifu.

    Nagano? :)

    1. Nagano!

But where in Nagano? Ski lodges, mountains, and a statue of a white horse in the middle of town...

Nagano? White horse? Only white horse I know of in Nagano is Shiroumadake! ^^

    3. Bu-bu-buuuu!

White horse... 白馬! = Hakuba, the site for the alpine events during the 1998 Nagano Olympics.

    4. Duh! Hakuba. Ah, well, I got the Nagano bit right! ^^

PS: I've never even been to Nagano!

    5. You really should go to Nagano! (Tell your Hero there are iwana to be caught!) It is especially nice in the summer, but lovely really all year round. I've been a number of summers in a row for my advisor's annual museum internship trip, a couple of visits to Matsumoto, and this recent trip. U and I both really liked Hakuba and wished we had more time to just wander about and go on a hike or two, so we'll go back again.

How can you go wrong with green forests and mountains?!

    1. Yatta! :D

I enlisted U's help so he was on the lookout too and stopped so I could take photos - which worked out well as I think the koi nobori shots are the only half decent ones we have of the mountains!

Oh, and I have another photo for you I had forgotten!

    2. You had help? That's not playing fair, but OK, since he's from Saitama, I'll forgive him. ^^

You've got another photo? Of a trout? :D
