  2. Achan - the lamb was delicious (I had more lamb last night) and way way too much not to share. I'm hoping (and my plans appear to be working) to turn U into a lamb fan. Might mean the occasional lamb meal in Japan!

Happy Holidays and all the best for the new year to you too!!

  3. You've loved lamb ever since I've known you. Do the Japanese have good lamb dishes? I love this entry - 'bickering with your dad'! Was it the maple syrup dog? Glad to hear you had such a great time.

  4. Cath - With the exception of a dish known as "Gengis Khan" in Hokkaido, lamb is not common in Japan. It u's thought of as 'smelly' and can really only be found in Indian restaurants.

Bickering with my dad - you know how we are, especially when we have differing memories of certain events... 'Maple syrup dog'?!?? Huh??

  5. Sarah we can find lamb in every supermarket around us. I don't know who is eating it but they are selling lots of it and it is much cheaper than Australia. Personally I hate the stuff-it's the smell, I much prefered the old days when it wasn't available because now I have to make sure what I pick up is beef and not lamb!!

  6. So, if I make it to Hokkaido this July, I'll have to try 'Genghis Khan'! Do they sell lamb cut into very thin slices? That could be for a Mongolian hot pot - lamb can be very nice in that. On the maple syrup dog, ask PPSC about what their dog did when they left a plastic bottle of maple syrup on the dining table once...

  7. Achan - another reason why your part of Japan is my favourite! I wish my local grocery store carried lamb!

Cath - I remember the story about Jules, I just wasn't sure of the relation... Yes, you will have to go for Gengis Khan in Hokkaido - yum yum yum!
