Tuesday Then & Now - Stairway


Here's another set of photos from the Nagasaki University's Metadatabase of Japanese Old Photographs. Having followed the cedar-lined road, and entered Nikko Toshogu, gone through the Yomeimon, you pass under the famous sleeping cat (and dodge lots of eager photo takers) and start to climb...

  1. That's why it's worth getting up at 4:30 on a weekday: start early and flee for your life before the first tour bus and flag-following group arrive.

    Oh. Wait. I guess Toshogu only opens at ... when? Nine?

    OK, well, African breaking and entering. Easy. :D

    1. I dunno about breaking into Nikko at the crack of dawn, but U and I were there once just before it closed and just about had it to ourselves!
